Luthier Workshops

I am excited to announce That I am now offering lesson style workshops in guitar building

When I think about learning to build guitars I am reminded how lucky I was to begin my journey while living in Denver, Colorado, just a few miles away from Red Rocks Community College. The woodworking program at the school is amazing and being a community college
it was by far the most affordable option for getting started in the craft. For many people a nearby and affordable place to learn about lutherie is not available and many people teach themselves with books and online resources, of which there are many good sources.

It can be really helpful at times to have a more personal and interactive learning experience however. I think about my own experience learning to play the guitar. I had lessons as a kid with a dedicated teacher at a time when I was not a dedicated student and when in my 20s I decided I really wanted to get better at playing I did a lot of teaching
myself. I also took occasional lessons from gifted teachers in specific styles of playing that I wanted to improve in. Taking the occasional lesson was both affordable and a great way to gather new insight and skill in ways that I knew I wanted to improve on the guitar. With that in mind I have decided I would like to try something similar in the
realm of guitar building rather than playing.

How The Workshops Work

In much the same way that guitar lessons work you come into the workshop with an intention of learning about some part of guitar building, or perhaps the intention of learning the whole process from start to finish. Workshops are set up in hour long increments during which time we will focus on your particular interests. Maybe we spend an hour talking about techniques for using hide glue for various parts of the build, or an hour discussing set up. Perhaps you want to book several hours of instruction and go through the whole process of making binding and purfling, cutting channels in the body and installing the finished binding and purfling.

Whatever it is that excites you about lutherie I would love to help you gain experience and insight into that process. While it is always nice to be working in the same space, I am also available for individual workshops via the internet as well.

Workshop time is purchasable by the hour, $50 per hour

In my shop if you are near by, or over the internet if you are unable to make it to my shop.
